De- Fueling Dungeness B Power Station

Dungeness B has been generating nuclear power in the region for over 50 years.  The station shut in 2018 for repair works and was due to start operating again in August this year.  However, the decision has been made to de-fuel the station after it was deemed that some reactors were beyond repair.  This will take several years to fully decommission the station.

The Regional Coastal Monitoring program has provided vital information of the condition of the beach and tsunami bund fronting the power station, with recycling schemes occurring on an annual basis.  It will be interesting to find out what the plans for the beach will be in the future, with any decisions or changes in policy closely monitored by the RCMP to incorporate these changes where possible.
