Two temporary groynes were installed at Deal in July 2018 for a trial scheme with two main objectives:
- To monitor the effect of the groynes on shingle movement in order to test the effectiveness of the proposed locations for permanent rock groynes
- To contribute to existing research on the suitability of geo-textile bags (geobags) for temporary groyne construction.
The trial is due to last for 18 months, with monthly topographic surveys, including a laser scan to monitor the positions of the bags. The geobag groynes appear to be performing well, with some movement of individual bags over the winter months.
